The Forbes Idea Incubator is a much-anticipated one-day event designed specifically for collegiate women pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Since the first Forbes Idea Incubator in 2017, $150,000 in #DriveProgress grant funding has been awarded to young women who have helped develope innovative solutions to the challenges presented at each event. The #Drive Progress Grant, a $50,000 fund established with NYU Tandon, provides financial assistance for student tuition and related expenses for the winning teams.
On Saturday, October 19, six teams of NYU Tandon students gathered to ideate around the following challenge:
Cars have long been symbols of freedom and movement - empowering generations to take to the open road and choose their own adventures. For many people today, however, the car has taken on an evolved role, as consumers move from traditional car ownership to alternative mobility options like ride-sharing or subscription models - often by simply tapping on their phones. How do we prepare for this transformation? How do we plan effectively for a combination of mobility solutions that allow for seamless movement across private and public transportation? What do those solutions look like? And what role will electric vehicles take?
The students had a full day to brainstorm and design their solution before they presented their ideas in front of a panel of judges. As they worked on their solutions, the teams received encouraging support from Audi mentors who walked the room providing guidance throughout the process, along with three previously winning students who joined as additional mentors. The judges would play the tough role in choosing the winning teams as they deliberated thoroughly, basing their decision on the presentations, concept and overall solution.
As it came down to the final hour, two teams were selected and announced as the third Forbes Idea Incubator award recipients. Regardless of which idea won the challenge, the students left feeling inspired and empowered, with new friends and mentors.
